Q4 in Spanish 4 Honors
It is hard to believe that Quarter 3 is over! Students have been practicing the four skills--- speaking, reading, listening
and writing through a variety of activities, both in class and online. Our specific focus in Quarter 3 has been reading comprehension,
and the use of the past tenses. We have worked on the vocabulary of sports and leisure, and students have done projects with
this vocabulary. In addition, the students have worked on modal phrases that give them great flexibility in their expression
(to have just/to try to/ to insist on etc.) They just did a project and presentation using these expressions to caption pictures.
We will soon be working on the vocabulary of travel and the future tense and perfect tenses.

Q4 in Spanish 4 CP1
It is hard to believe that Quarter 3 is over! Students have been working on a variety of vocabulary related to the workplace
-- applying for jobs and communication in the workplace. With each vocabulary unit, we incorporate practice in the four skills--
speaking, reading, listening and writing through a variety of activities, both in class and online. In the lab, the students
are directed to websites which help them practice the vocabulary and structures we are studying, and they work independently.
They have practiced present and past tenses, incorporating preterite and imperfect tenses in their work. Soon we will be
working on modal phrases that give them great flexibility in their expression (to have just/to try to/to insist on etc.)
In addition, we will work on vocabulary related to leisure, sports and travel.

Q4 in Spanish 5 Honors / AP
In Spanish 5 Honors / AP, the overarching goal is to prepare students for the four skills of listening, speaking, reading
and writing which will be encountered in the tasks on the AP exam (and final exam for Spanish 5 Honors). In quarter 3, we
continued to review verb tenses of the indicative mood, and began the work of studying the subjunctive mood in noun clauses
after WEIRDO verbs. They continue to study vocabulary related to units of reading related to family, community, and the use
of technology in all phases of life. They have presented an oral report in their groups about their ideal place to be. We
did an extensive unit on verbs that take characteristic prepositions, which are very important for all four skills - reading,
writing, listening and speaking. Students have recently reviewed the use of the four subjunctive tenses in adjective and
adverbial clauses. Currently, they are studying about the advantages and disadvantages of using technology vis a vis health
and well-being. Cultural readings continue. Topics include contemporary life, world challenges, the arts, and individual
and public identities.
A special Google Classroom with many activities / articles / cultural articles / videos for independent practice prior
to the AP Exam in May has been set up for them.
